Agnes MACKIE

Hamilton Parish Records: Marriage - Alexander Millar and Agnes Mackie both in this parish for 2 days 7th and 14 October 1810 - FHL 1066593

On her daughter Jane's death certificate in 1891 her son-in-law says her mothers name was Annie Mackie.  There is an IGI reference to the marriage of Alexander Millar and Agnes Mackie in 1810 in Hamilton.  This is likely to be more correct.

In the 1841 and 1861 census for Hamilton there is an Agnes Miller (Millar) listed as a sister to Cooper Miller.  This is not Agnes Miller (nee Mackie) as this Agnes died on 5 November 1869 as a single lady with Cooper her brother being the informant.

2. Jane M MILLAR

Jane Millar seems to have been born around 1810 in Hamilton.

In the 1841 Census her age is 25-29 (1812-1816)
      1851                   40    (1811)
      1861                   50    (1811)
      1871                   40 (60?)
       1881                   71    (1810).

On her death certificate her son-in-law declares her age as 83 in 1891 (b 1808).

Jane Millar, a washer woman, is living with Malcolm in the 1841 census but listed by her maiden name.  They were most likely married before then as Catherine aged 3 in the 1841 census, is the child of Malcolm MacDonald and Jane Millar as identified by Catherine's marriage registration.

In the 1871 census she is listed as Jane M McDonald.  The "M" could be for "Miller" or her mother's maiden name of "Mackie".

Death Registration: Jane McDonald, widow of Malcolm McDonald, house painter (journeyman), died 10th March 1891 at 43 Muir Steet, Hamiton, aged 83.  Her father was listed as Alexander Miller and mother Annie Miller, m.s Mackie (both deceased). Informant was William Jack, son-in-law of 43 Muir Street, Hamilton.
