Alexander is described as a Burgess and Guild Brethren but only appears as such as late as 1796 and it has to be thought that he was still alive at this date Also in the Guild of Masons were Slater's and Quarriers so what exactly Alexander was doing beside being a merchant is unclear as he could be following one of several paths.
