Joseph was the oldest child of Joseph Baxendell (1734-84) and Mary Beadle. He was baptised at St. Georges, Castle Street, Liverpool, 6th June 1758.

Bans of Marriage between Joseph Baxendale and Catherine Brindle were published on the 20th & 27th of May and 3rd June.  Joseph Baxendale of this Parish and Catherine Brindle of the said parish, spinster were married in the Church at Standish by Banns this 11 June 1787 in the presence of: John Smith, James Brindle.

He married Catherine or Kitty Brindle (b.1768, Yorks) at Standish Parish Church, Lancashire on 11 June 1787.

By 1782, when his first son Thomas was born, he was a Weaver of Hollins, near Oldham(3). In 1794 he was living at Park, in the Parish of Ashton(4), in 1797 a Banksman (in charge of a pithead winding engine) of Littletown, nr. Oldham(3), and in 1800 was a Banksman of Oak, nr. Oldham(3).

Between 1800 and his death in 1827 he moved into the London Road district of Manchester, where he established the Coal Dealer’s business in Ducie Street(5,6), which was continued by his son James.

In his will dated 1821 he leaves his estate to his children Thomas, James, Joseph, Jane and Elizabeth.

The probate on his will provides his death date as 18 Aug 1826.

There are possible burials in or around Manchester in 1823, 1825, 1831, 1840 etc.
