Shocking Death From Scalding
A distressing accident took place here on Friday.  Mr William Bailey, jun., blacksmith, having just dined, was playing with his little boy, between three and four years old, and clapping his hands, said, "I'll catch you." when the child ran backwards and fell in a sitting posture into a keeler which his mother had just filled with boiling water.  The poor little fellow was so dreadfully scalded that Mr. Cooper, the surgeon, who was almost instantly in attendance, pronounced that there was little chance of his recovering from the shock to the system, and he expired on Saturday morning.

William's wife Eliza dies in October 1861.

10. John BAILEY

In the 1841 Census of Ixworth William Bailey (b1797-1801) a blacksmith was living with Mary Bailey (b1797-1801), William Bailey(b1816-1821)also a balcksmith and John Bailey(b1822-1826) a tailors apprentice.

It is assumed that John was the son of Willliam (the older balcksmith) and Mary Bailey as he was living with them in the 1841 census and was a similar age to the children William and Mary Ann.

In William Bailey's probate reference his brother John a Tailor was his executor.

Louisa/Lucy/Eliza Bloomfield; The 1851 Pakenham Census (HO107/1791) shows John Bailey married to Louisa, as does the 1861 Pakenham Census (RG9/1139). In the 1871 Pakenham Census (RG10/1726), she has become Lucy. In the 1881 Pakenham Census (RG11/1841) she is back to Louisa. Her death registration (4a/399) shows her as Louisa, and so does her marriage registration (13/1190). Louisa/Lucy’s maiden name was Bloomfield as shown from the 1861 Census where Clement Bloomfield, John’s brother in law (Louisa/Lucy’s brother) was living with them. The 1841 Census shows Louisa/Lucy’s parents. The 1841 Pakenham Census (HO107/1036/15) shows the Bloomfield family including Clement, but the only person of Louisa’s age is Eliza. It is possible that Louisa (aged 20) had left home and Eliza was her sister.
