It is possible that daughter Margaret here had in turn a child named Ruth baptised 10th May 1767 named after her deceased sister Ruth who was buried 7 Apr 1760. Father of Ruth is not named and there are no indicators that Ruth is born out of wedlock. Ruth is an unusual name in the Crook family.

There is a marriage of Robert Parkinson to Elizabeth Taylor in 1743 in Bolton. This would make Robert at least born 1725. They seemed to have 3 children Jane b 1745, Priscilla b1745 and Jane b1764.
Elizabeth seems to be buried as Betty wife of Robert Parkinson 20th Dec 1770 St Peters Bolton so this fits with his next quick marriage to Margaret Crook as possibly he had need of a younger wife and step mother for last child at a guess.

There is a Joseph baptised on 2 January 1751 in Bolton Le Moors to James Crook and Ann Fogg. Warning - there were at least two Joseph Crooks in the Bolton area at this time. As their first child is likely to be a James Crook these parents seem credible.

There are two marriages of a Joseph in about 1773-4 in Bolton. Joseph Crook and Mary Stranrill(Standring) on 20 June 1773, and Joseph Crook and Mary Haulgh on 4 April 1774.
The above Joseph marriages appear to be different families.
A child James Crook was baptised 20 March 1774 about nine months after the marriage of Joseph Crook and Mary Standrill who were married on 20 June 1773. James died just before 2 April 1774. This James was likely child of Joseph Crook and Mary Standring, together with Jeremiah, Mary, Alice and Joshua. Jeremiah, Mary and most likely Joshua were baptised in the Bank St Bolton Unitarian Church - why were not any other children baptised there?
Joseph and Mary Haulgh married in 5 April 1774. A child John was baptised 11 September 1774 and was too close to the above James and thus this John most likely belongs to the Mary Haulgh family.

They left behind them two sons and three daughters.

Archive Roll: 854Why should James not be baptised in Bank Street like Jeremiah. It is possible he was a very sickly child and needed to be baptised ASAP before the inevitable happened - maybe it was easier to go to St Peters for some reason - did they do baptisms every day as opposed to Bank Street? It seems that James may well have died shortly after birth.
