Shoreham Kent
The chapel on the north side is described in a framed notice hanging in the church porch as "The Polhill Chapel". It contains no memorials of the Bucklands but is occupied by memorials of JOHN POLHILL (1612-1651), Sir John Borrett and his family (1739), Lady Stirling (1806), and of Sir Roger Gregory (1938) and Lady Gregory (1947) and his family, -all residents at one time or another of Shoreham.

The Polhill memorial is a rather damaged black marble slab, under glass, in the west wall, bearing the arms of Polhill and Buckland impaled with Gilboume. The inscription, with conjectures for the words which are damaged, reads as follows:-
Neere this lyeth interred the body of John Polhill late of Preston in ye parish of Shoreham, esq, lineally descended from the elder house of ye ancient family of ye Polhills of Preston aforesaid in ye cou of Kent. He departed this life ye 12 Day of May Ao Dni 1651 in ye 39th yeare of his age.
