This John Storey is most likely the son of John Storey and Elizabeth Goodfrey of Whalton Northumberland.  The children's names line up and the age is reasonably close and the location matches. John born about 1731 would have been 40 when he married Magdelene Aynsley.

England Marriages 1538-1973
Marriage: John Storey
Marriage Date 09 Jun 1771
Marriage Place Whalton, Northumberland, England
Spouse Magdalene Aynsley
FHL Film Number 0962713 IT 2

Marriage: Whalton Parish bts - John Storey and Magdalene Aynsley both of this parish were married in this church by Banns on 9 June 1771 by John Hogarth, Curate.  This marriage was solemized between John Storey and Magdalene in the presence of Ralph Spraggon and Nathanael Johnson.

John Storey and Magdalene Aynsley's children’s names probably indicate the names of their parents:

1st child - Elizabeth born 1772 - child's father's mother
2nd child - John born 1773 - child's father and child's father's father
3rd child - Ann born 1775 - child's mother's mother
4th child - William born 1778 - ?
5th child - Magdalene born 1780 - child's mother
6th child - Mary born 1784 - ?
7th child - Mark born 1785 - Child's father's grandfather

In his children's baptisms John was from Ogle South farm. Elizabeth Storey, most likely John's mother died at Ogle South farm in 1774.

In 1775, 1786 and 1803 John Storey was a Churchwarden of St. Mary Magdalene, Church of England, Whalton Parish.

Grave Transcription: St Mary Magdalene Whalton Northumberland
Sacred to the memory of Magdalene wife of John Story of Ogle South Farm who died January 8th 1789 aged 41 years.  Elizabeth daughter of the above died May 9th 1788 aged 18 years.  The above John Story died August 5th 1820 aged 93 years.

Burial: Whalton Parish bpts - John Storey, Abode - Whalton, 5 August 1820, aged 93.

A death age of 93 in 1820 means a birth of about 1727 which is close to the 1731 above.

12. Mark STOREY

Also residing at Ogle South farm at the same time as John Storey b1731 was a Mark Storey with his wife Frances Clint.  They were married at Whalton by Banns on 26 March 1772 and were both of Whalton Parish.  The witnesses to the marriage were John Patterson and Joseph Brewis.

It is possible that because they were on the same farm that this Mark Storey was John b1731s brother but no baptism registration has yet been found that would confirm that Mark's father was John.

A Mark Storey was the witness to Mary's (b1741) marriage in 1772.  Siblings are often witness as marriages.  William Prudloch of the Parish of Bolam, batchelor and Mary Storey of Whalton Parish, spinster were married in the Church at Whalton by Banns on 17 May 1772. The witnesses were Mark Storey and Joseph Brewis.

In addition Mark's children's names would suggest his father was John as their 1st child was called John.

As Mark was married in 1772 he is unlikely to have been born after 1753.  Because he was the witness at his sister's wedding he was probably an older brother to Mary b1741.  There is a gap of 3 years of recorded baptisms before Mary so as a guess it is suggested he was born about 1740 and probably in Whalton.  There are a number of parties who claim that Mark was born at Rothbury, Northumberland in 1731 - I have not seen any justification for this position.

- Mary baptised 27 December 1774 - Ogle South Farm

Mark was a farmer at Newham Edge farm and was buried at Whalton on 21 July 1784.

Hannah an infant of Frances Storey, widow of Newham Edge was buried at Whalton 24 February 1785. Hannah was also listed as a twin.

Marriage: Whalton parish bts - William Prudloch of the Parish of Bolam, batchelor and Mary Storey of Whalton Parish, spinster were married in the Church at Whalton by Banns on 17 May 1772. The witnesses were Mark Storey and Joseph Brewis.

Mary's children's names would suggest that her mother's name is possibly Elizabeth.  William Proudlock's parents were Thomas and Jane.

The witness to the above marriage, Mark Storey, is probably the Mark Storey that lived at Ogle South Farm with Mary's brother John Storey.  When Mark Storey married Frances Clint on 26 March 1772 the witnesses were John Paterson and Joseph Brewis.  Note that Joseph Brewis was the parish clerk and was witness to both Mark and Mary Storeys' marriages.
