It is most likely that Margaret Smith was born in Longforgan in 1765 to Andrew Smith and Cecilia Smith. Her parents names are clearly repeated in the names of her children.

There are two entries that relate: Augt 26, 1786 - William Spalden in Bonetown and Mar Smith in Glenbulloch gave up their (sic) for proclamation.

Margaret Smith is still alive in January 1815 as she is mentioned in her son William's will dated 25 January 1815. eg "Margaret Smith my mother - the house and cows grass the same as she enjoys under me at present". So it would appear that her husband is deceased by then and she has been supported by her son William for a while.
In the 1841 census at Mayriggs Bendochy on the same page as her son Andrew is listed a Margaret Smith (often Scottish ladies use their maiden name). Her age was 75 (75-79) or born between 1762 and 1766.
