JOHN CROSSLEY, esq. of Scaitcliff, who was appointed, in 1715, pole for providing a foot soldier and arms to serve in the militia of Lancashire, and in 1724 was high constable of Salford Hundred. He married first, Sarah, daughter of William Sutcliffe, of Higher Ashes, in the county of York, and that lady dying issueless in Feb. 1696, he wedded, secondly, in 1700, Mary, daughter of - Halstead, esq. of Burnley Bridge-end, and had issue.
Mr. John Crossley died 5th February, 1745, was buried at Todmorden, and succeeded by his son.

Luke, of Henshaw, in Lancashire, baptized at Todmorden, 22nd May, 1712, who received a cornet's commission in 1743, and served under the immediate command of his royal highness the Duke of Cumberland until the rising of 1745 was suppressed by the victory of Culloden. His sword, with his initials, 1745, is in the Scaitcliffe armoury. He married 17th June, 1733, Alice, daughter of Radclyffe Schofield, esq. of Henshaw, but dying without issue at Alkrington, 11th September, 1764, he left his estates to his brother Anthony.
