Albert Lane Floyd, in 1955 set sail to Australia with his wife Peg.
Birth: NSW BDM 832/1863 GODDARD STEPHEN STEPHEN SARAH SYDNEY. Stephen Goddard was born on 26 March 1863 at 8 Park Street, Sydney. His father was shown as Stephen Goddard, a steward, aged 22 who was born in London. His mother was Sarah Fulllam, aged 22 who was born in Maitland, NSW. His parents were married in November 1862 in Sydney. The witness was Mrs Abigail.
As Sarah Ann Fullam and Stephen Goddard (b1840) were not married until after Stephen Goddard's(b1863) conception, and also considering the subsequent behavour of his mother when his brother Richard died, there has to be some concern as to if Stephen Goddard(b1840) is the father, even though he is recorded as such. Some relevant DNA matches to Brian Spalding link three people to Charlote Maunder and so gives some confidnece to Sthepen Goddard b1840 as the father.
His mother called him Steven Henry Goddard, aged 10, when giving evidence to the manslaughter of her other son Richard Thomas Goddard in June 1873. See the Clarence and Richmond Examiner - Tuedsay 3 June 1873, page 6 extract in the notes of Sarah Ann Fullam. He is never referred to as Stephen Henry Goddard in any official documents seen so far.Marriage: NSW BDM 2275/1886 GODDARD STEPHEN STOREY JANE BALMAIN. On 22 July 1886 at St John's Balmain, Stephen Goddard, a bachelor and a Ferryman and Jane Storey a spinster were married. Both were listed as living at Balmain. "DECISION RESERVED.
Jane Goddard, of Phillip-street, Balmain (sister of the late Mr. John Storey, a former Premier of the State), claimed pounds500 compensation from the Australian Commonwealth Shipping Board for the death of her husband, Stephen Goddard.
The accident which resulted in Goddard's death from uremia occurred on July 22, 1925, at Cockatoo Dock, where he was employed as a latrine attendant. He tripped and fell over a wire, returned home, and was subsequently attended by Dr. Arnold and sent to the Coast Hospital, where he died on August 5 of the same year. Shortly afterwards Dr. Arnold also died.
The case was brought under the old Workmen's Compensation Act of 1916, and was now heard by the Court by consent.
The Court reserved its decision.
Dr. Evatt, K.C., and Mr. J. S. Clancy (instructed by Mr. Abram Landa) appeared for the applicant; and Mr. Ingram (instructed by Messrs. Tietyens, McLachlan, and Co.) represented the respondents."Sydney Morning Herald - Saturday 10 May 1930, page 10
"WORKERS' COMPENSATION COMMISSION.
(Before Judge Perdriau and Commissioner Halliday.)
CLAIM BY A WIDOW.
Goddard v Australian Commonwealth Shipping Board.
Reserved judgment was given in the matter of a claim by the widow of Stephen Goddard, a former employee of the Australian Shipping Board at Cockatoo Island for pounds500 compensation under the Workmen's Compensation Act of 1916. Goddard, who was 62 jears of age, was given a position by the board, which was described as "an old man's job". On July 22, 1925, when coming from his work, he tripped over a rope which was three or four inches from the ground and fell, injuring his wrist. For some years he had suffered from rheumatism, and at times had been absent from work from that cause. Applicant claimed that the injury arose out of, and in course of, his employment. Respondent board denied this.In delivering judgment, the President quoted extensively from medical evidence, and said that after close scrutiny of the facts and consideration of the opinions of medical experts in regard to the possible effects of the fall, he was unable to draw the conclusion that the accident so affected Goddard's condition that it was a contributory cause to his death. The Commission's finding should be that the applicant had not discharged the onus of proving that death was the result of the accidental injury, and the award should be for the respondent.
Dr. Evatt, K.C., and Mr. J. S. Clancy (instructed by Mr. Abraham Landa) appeared in support of the application, and Mr. Ingham (Instructed by Messrs Tietyens, McLachlan, and Co ) for the respondent board."
