Thomas Knowles Charity
In Feb 1686/7 a benefit was established by Thomas Knowles for the poor of Inskip, Sowerby, Tarnacre and Goosnargh.  One of the trustees was a Thomas Miler.  In about 1782 there was concern that the arrangements by the then trustees was less than optimal for the poor.  The then trustees included John, Richard and William Miller, all three of Inskip with Sowerby, yeomen.

It is likely that all the above Miller (Milner) are related.

There are other Sowerby baptisms but they are 10 years earlier and are likely to be an older father John.  Sowerby and Inskip are close and often named together.

The following indicates that Richard is a son of John with brothers of Thomas and Ralph.

30. Thomas MILNER The Younger

In Thomas' marriage licence of Oct 1760 he was 22 ie born abt 1737, and in his burial he was declared as 75 in March 1814 ie born about 1739.

The following baptism is likely as the location, and date are close but the father's name is Miller not Millner.  The name Miller, Milner and Millner are regularly confused and used almost interchangeably.

Baptism: 8 Oct 1738 St Michael, St Michael's on Wyre, Lancashire, England
Thomas Miller - Son of John Miller (clearly written as Miller but possible that Miller and Milner confused)
   Abode: Inskip
   Register: Baptisms 1707 - 1771
   Source: LDS Film 94024

The first child of Thomas, son John matches the above father of Thomas, and the second child of Thomas, son Ralph matches the mother's father's name.

Thomas was referred to as Thomas the Younger in his son John's baptism of 1761.  So who was Thomas the elder?  A father or uncle pershaps?  The father is unlikely as for the reasons above it would appear Thomas' father was John.

Thomas Milner, probably born early to mid 1600s.
John, Richard and William - all brothers and sons of John Milner of Inskip 1705-1785: sons Richard 1732-1820, William 1735-1817, and John 1741-1787.  The John in this list could be the father b1705 or the son b1741.
