According to the census records and her death registration she was born about 1796 in Hamilton. She can be found in all the census records from 1841 to 1871.
In the 1871 census for Larkhall Mrs Peter Spalding and grand daughter Mary Lang are listed. Mrs Peter Spalding (Mary Thomson)'s age is shown as 55 but it should be closer to 75. Mary Lang was Mary Thomson's daughter Janet Spalding's first daughter.
Death Registration: Mary died aged 84 on 5 April 1880. She was listed as the widow of Peter Spalding, miner, her parents were given as Thomas Thomson, merchant and Mary Thomson (m.s. Brown). George Brooks, son-in-law, was the informant.
