A report of 12th Nov 1845 in the Manchester Courier and Lancashire General Advertiser reads "Joseph Handley about 4 o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday week was perceived to reel from his seat and fall to the ground and in a few moments he was extinct. Joseph was involved in the family concern and seemed to keep the books for the coaches for Mrs Wilding... "
