In the same dwelling as Andrew Spalding in the 1850 Census of Buffalo, are living a probable daughter, Isabel, age 24, b. Scot. and her husband Joseph  b. England.  They have two children, Margaret, age 3, and William, age 1 (both b. NY).  A number of other persons are also living in this place, but it is not possible to say which ones, except for Isabel, are related to the Spaldings.

At Buffalo four children were born to Joseph and Isabelle, they are Mrs. Mary Wilson of Toledo, William and Andrew of this city and Hume of Monroe town. In 1853 Captain Vivian moved to this county and settled in Frenchtown where another daughter Josephine was born.

William Spaulding Vivian, aged 79 years, died at his home at 59 South Macomb street at 4:30 a.m. today. He had suffered a stroke of apoplexy late in November, and complications subsequently developed. He was confined to his bed for about 12 weeks.  Mr. Vivian had been a resident of Monroe for abut 32 years, coming here from Burlington, Iowa. He married Alice Baker November 24, 1880, at Clayton, Michigan and they took up their residence in Monroe immediately.  Mr. Vivian was born at Buffalo, New York, on January 27, 1849. He is survived by the widow, Alice Baker Vivian, a son E. B. Vivian of 425 Borgess avenue, and four grand children; two sisters, Josephine Vivian of 802 South Harrison street, and Mrs. Margaret Wilson of Massilon, Ohio.

Funeral Services will be held from the home at 59 South Macomb street at three o'clock Monday afternoon, with the Rev. S. W. McClelland, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be made in Woodlawn [sic] cemetery. The relatives request that there be no flowers.

Mrs. Alice Vivian
Dies at Age of 86
Mrs. Alice Vivian, 86 years old, died suddenly of a heart attack at 8 o'clock this morning in the home of Mrs. Virginia Sherman, 212 East First street, where she had been visiting. Mrs Vivian's home was at 59 South Macomb street.

Funeral services will be held at the Earle Little funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Wilfred Simpson of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery. The body will remain in the funeral home until after the services.

Mrs. Vivian was born in New York state, January 9, 1858, and came to Monroe following her marriage to William Vivan on November 24, 1880, at Clayton, Michigan. Mr. Vivian died April 21, 1928.

Mrs. Vivian was a member of the Presbyterian church and a charter member of Monroe Chapter No. 226, Order of Eastern Star. She also was a member of the Maccabees.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Morton, and a half sister, Mrs.??.  Surviving are a sister, Mrs. George Arthur Morton, both of Broadalbin, New York; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her only son, Edward Vivian, died June 25, 1943.

WELL KNOWN LOCAL CITIZEN DIES AT 70

S. Hume Vivian, 76, for more than 68 years a resident of Monroe county passed away at his home, 317 South Monroe street, at 5:15 this morning. He had been in failing health for the past two years.  He was born at Buffalo, N.Y., August 27, 1858 and at an early age his parents settled in Monroe county where he had resided since.  Besides his widow, one son, Leslie, in the United Marine Corps, Quantico, Virginia, one brother and a sister, Josephine, both of Monroe, survive.

The body of Mrs. Hattie Vivian, who died at her home in Charleston, South Carolina, Friday, was to be brought to the Mulholland funeral home this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, where services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. The Rev. B. F. Holme, pastor of St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal Church will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.

Leslie Vivian, son of Mrs. Vivian, flew from San Diego, California, and arrived in Toledo today at 11:30a.m. Mrs. Vivian was the widow of Hume Vivian, They formerly made their home here. She was the former Hattie Hendershot.

Edith P. Vivian passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 as she had wished, in the care of Northpointe Retirement Community where she had lived for the last 10 years. She was an active member of Gadsden Street United Methodist Church until her death of a miraculous and wonderful 103 years!

Edith is survived by a niece and her husband, Jeanne and Dr. Charles N. Claytor and their children, Linda Merting, Janet Steele, Gail Green and Mark Claytor, all of Pensacola; a nephew, Charles King and his family of the De Funiak Springs area; a niece by marriage, Udine McCaskill and her children, Kenneth McCaskill, Kathy Fleming, Joe McCaskill, Phillip McCaskill and Doug McCaskill, all of Pensacola. Edith was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Bessie McCaskill, Loula Mae Johnson, Gussie King and Willie M. Burkett.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 9, 2009 in Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel at 11:00 a.m., conducted by the Rev. John Baxter. Burial will follow the service in Bayview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Jessie Spalding, 77 years old, died Thursday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. J. Schiflett of East Germantown. Mrs. Spalding resided at 625 North Ninth street, Richmond. She was the widow of George A. Spalding who died in January.
Survivors include another daughter, Miss Lulu Spalding of Richmond; five sons, Andrew, Frank, Robert and Maynard of Richmond and George of Lupton, Mich; 30 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
She was an active member of Reid Memorial church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Spalding will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Doan & Son mortuary with Rev. Allen Layman officiating. Burial will be in Earlham cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary Sunday afternoon and evening.

Robert M. SPALDING Sr., 79, 901 Peacock Road, died this morning at Reid Memorial Hospital, after a short illness.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Richmond, was a graduate of Richmond High School and had attended Earlham College. He was an employee of H & P Tool Co., retiring in 1982. He was a member of West Richmond Friends meeting and was a member of the Yokefellow meeting at First Friends.
Survivors include his wife, Eva E. SPALDING, to whom he had been married 51 years in October; two daughters, Betty HENDRIX of Stanford, Conn., and Marjorie HORNE of Oakridge, Tenn.; one son, Robert Masters SPALDING of Arlington, Texas; five grandsons; two sisters, Vivian SHIFLETT and Lulu SPALDING, both of Pershing; one brother, Andrew Harry SPALDING of Richmond; Nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Robert M. SPALDING Sr. will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at West Richmond Friends meeting, Entombment will be in Earlham Memorial Mausoleum, Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home.

101. Albert Burch SPALDING

DEATH OF A. B. SPALDING
Albert Burch Spalding, who lived for several years in the Perrin community before moving to the Stewartsville community, died Sunday. His death was from a sudden heart attack, although he had not been in very good health for quite a while.

He was born September 11, 1866, at Monroe, Mich., and was 76 years, 5 months and 24 days old.  He came to Missouri at the age of eighteen, and followed the occupation of farming until he retired a few years ago.

He was married December 24, 1891, to Miss Cynthia Ella Morgan, who survives.
To them were born ten children, five of whom are living: Wm. of Amity, Claude of Maysville, Raymond of the U. S. Navy, Ernest of Minnesota, and Mrs. Gladys Shewey of Cameron.

One son and four grandsons are serving their country in the armed forces.
Sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two brothers and two sisters also survive.

Mr. Spalding had been a member of the Christian church since early life.

The funeral was held at the Lyon chapel at Stewartsville, Wednesday afternoon, and burial was in the Stewartsville cemetery.

J. E. Shoemaker and C. F. Ward of Plattsburg were at Stewartsville to be present at the funeral.
