George C. Spalding, 84 years old, died Tuesday. He had resided at 625 North Ninth street.
Surviving are his widow, Jessie, five sons, Andrew, Frank, Robert and Maynard of Richmond and George, of Lupton Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. R. J. Schiflett, of Pershing, and miss Lulu Spalding, of Richmond; twenty-eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jessie Spalding, 77 years old, died Thursday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. J. Schiflett of East Germantown. Mrs. Spalding resided at 625 North Ninth street, Richmond. She was the widow of George A. Spalding who died in January.
Survivors include another daughter, Miss Lulu Spalding of Richmond; five sons, Andrew, Frank, Robert and Maynard of Richmond and George of Lupton, Mich; 30 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
She was an active member of Reid Memorial church.
Funeral services for Mrs. Spalding will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Doan & Son mortuary with Rev. Allen Layman officiating. Burial will be in Earlham cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary Sunday afternoon and evening.

Survivors include his wife, Eva E. SPALDING, to whom he had been married 51 years in October; two daughters, Betty HENDRIX of Stanford, Conn., and Marjorie HORNE of Oakridge, Tenn.; one son, Robert Masters SPALDING of Arlington, Texas; five grandsons; two sisters, Vivian SHIFLETT and Lulu SPALDING, both of Pershing; one brother, Andrew Harry SPALDING of Richmond; Nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Robert M. SPALDING Sr. will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at West Richmond Friends meeting, Entombment will be in Earlham Memorial Mausoleum, Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home.

DEATH OF A. B. SPALDING
Albert Burch Spalding, who lived for several years in the Perrin community before moving to the Stewartsville community, died Sunday. His death was from a sudden heart attack, although he had not been in very good health for quite a while.He was born September 11, 1866, at Monroe, Mich., and was 76 years, 5 months and 24 days old. He came to Missouri at the age of eighteen, and followed the occupation of farming until he retired a few years ago.
He was married December 24, 1891, to Miss Cynthia Ella Morgan, who survives.
To them were born ten children, five of whom are living: Wm. of Amity, Claude of Maysville, Raymond of the U. S. Navy, Ernest of Minnesota, and Mrs. Gladys Shewey of Cameron.One son and four grandsons are serving their country in the armed forces.
Sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two brothers and two sisters also survive.Mr. Spalding had been a member of the Christian church since early life.
The funeral was held at the Lyon chapel at Stewartsville, Wednesday afternoon, and burial was in the Stewartsville cemetery.
J. E. Shoemaker and C. F. Ward of Plattsburg were at Stewartsville to be present at the funeral.

Dies in MonroeMrs. Agnes Kull, aged 86, of 127 W. Noble Ave., Monroe, passed away at 6:30 Saturday morning, July 30, in her home, death being due to a heart attack.
Born January 1st, 1874, in Petersburg, she was a daughter of the late William and Susan Burch Spalding. Her girlhood days were spent in Petersburg and she attended the local school. On June 12, 1900, she was united in marriage to Frank Kull in Petersburg, the ceremony being performed by Rev. E. H. Bradfield, Presbyterian minister here at that time. Since her marriage Mrs, Kull has resided in Monroe and she was preceded in death by her husband on Nov., 30, 1954. Mrs. Kull was also preceded in death by a sister, Belle Spalding. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Floyd Yeary of Monroe; five grandchildren, and eight great-grand-children.

J. Stewart Spalding, 83, died at 12:20 p.m. Sunday at his home, 4608 North Custer road. He had been in poor health for three weeks and suffered a stroke Friday morning from which he failed to rally.
He was born May 6, 1862 in Frenchtown township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Spalding, and on December 28, 1892 married Aristine Marshall at Brest. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. S. Edwards.
Mr. Spalding is survived by his wife; four sons, Albert of Raisinville, Richard of Dayton, Ohio, Clayton of South Haven and Edward of Stony Pointe Beach; two daughters, Annie of Monroe and Mrs. Ruth Mulhollen of Belleville; 14 great-grand-children and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Frederick of Traverse City.The body is at the Earle Little funeral home where services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Tuesday with the Rev. Leon Toepfer in charge. Burial will be in Petersburg cemetery.

MRS. J. STEWARD SPALDINGMrs. J. Steward (Aristine) Spalding, 75, died of complications at her home, 4608 North Custer Rd., at 4:45 a.m. today. She had been ill the past three months.
Mrs. Spalding was born Feb. 15, 1873, at Brest and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Marshall whose parents were some of the earliest settlers of Brest. She married J. Steward Spalding Dec. 30, 1892 at the home of her parents on the Stoney Pointe Rd.
Mrs. Spalding was a lifetime member of the East Raisinville United Brethren Evangelical Church, a charter member of the Ladies Aid Society, an honorary member of the Legion Auxiliary, and a Gold Star mother of the First World War. Mrs. Spalding had been very active in the church until the last three months. Mr. Spalding died two years ago. Also three sons and one daughter preceded her in death.
Survivors are two daughters, Miss Annie Spalding, who is at home, and Mrs. Lloyd Mulhollen of Ypsilanti, four sons, Albert Spalding at home, Richard Spalding of Dayton, Ohio, Clayton Spalding of Southhaven and Edward Spalding of Stoney Pointe, a sister Mrs. Byron Aseltyne of Stoney Pointe, a nephew, Elmer Marshall of Brest, and a niece, Mrs. William Ray of Brest.

MONROE BOY DIES
AT CAMP CUSTER
Eugene Spalding son of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Spalding of Raisinville township died at Camp Custer, Battle Creek this morning at one o'clock. Death resulting from pneumonia. Mr. Spalding was sent on the draft call from Detroit in September. He was twenty-three years of age. The remains will probably be brought to the home of his parents in Raisinville Township.

He graduated from West Point in 1901 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers and was assigned to the Philippines with the 1st and 2d Battalions of Engineers, with the mission of building roads and performing bridgework. After earning a promotion to First Lieutenant in April 1903, he returned to Washington D.C. to serve with the 2d Battalion of Engineers at Washington Barracks from December 1904 to June 1905. He also did surveying work in Manassas, Virginia from May 1904 to September 1904.
While he was on leave from September 11, to October 10, 1904, George Redfield Spalding married Alice Minnie Ruff on September 17, 1904 in Washington, D.C. She was born on April 11, 1880, in Washington D.C. to Albert and Alice Ruff and received her education and taught school before she married George. The Spaldings had three children: George Redfield was born on July 5, 1905; Alice Margaret was born on May 28, 1907; and Albert Ruff was born on March 31, 1914, in Kansas.. By 1915, he was a Major serving as a reconnaissance and training officer in Washington D.C.
In 1917, he was promoted Lieutenant Colonel Divisional Engineer Officer in charge of defense and offensive training on the staff of General Pershing. On General Pershing’s staff in Europe during WW I, he organized Engineer Corps administration, was promoted Colonel and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in November 1918.
He received three medals during the war, the Distinguished Service Medal, the French Legion d’Honneur, and the Belgian Order of Leopold. After the Armistice he was a member of the Superior Board which was in charge of the occupation of Germany and the demobilization of U.S. Forces from Europe until July 1919.

Back in the U.S. he continued to work with the War Department on postwar issues and was a member of Mississippi River Commission 1933-35.
On July 1, 1931, Lieutenant Colonel Spalding was promoted to Colonel while a Division Engineer of the Upper Mississippi River Commission, a position he held until 1935.
In 1936, he was promoted Brigadier General and retired on disability in 1938. After suffering a heart attack, he and Mrs. Spalding retired to their home in Florida where he regained his health. He was recalled to active duty in 1941, as executive officer for the Division of Defense Shipping and Storage Section to co-ordinate requests for aid submitted by foreign countries. He resigned from his post at the end of WW II.
After his retirement, Brigadier General Spalding and his wife Alice moved to Bradenton, Florida. George Redfield Spalding died on June 28, 1962 in Bradenton, Florida and he and his wife Alice, who died on December 31, 1966 are buried in Arlington National Cemetery.Title U.S. Army Register
