Fatal Fall From Ladder On Farm
Losing his balance on a ladder 20 feet in the air when he was shocked by an electric wire, H. H. McRoberts, a workman engaged in wiring a new barn at Wilfred Corlet's farm, close to the city limit, fell to the ground and was fatally injured Monday afternoon.
McRoberts was brought to the city and died in the General hospital from internal injuries. He came to Calgary a few months ago from Glasgow, Scotland, and had resided at 1818 Eighteen-A street west, with his wife and family. Two brothers, William C. McRoberts and R. C. McRoberts, are also residents of Calgary. He leaves a widow and five children. He was 43 years of age.

S.W., passed awav in the Holy Cross Hospital on September 12,1982, at the age of 71 years. Besides his loving wife, Mr. McRoberts is survived by one daughter and son-in law, Roberta (Bobby) and Gerry Green; two granddaughters, Donna and Cindy; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Gwen and one sister, Mrs. Betty Pritchard, all of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews. McROBERTS—William Cowan McRoberts beloved husband of Mrs Gwen McRoberts of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Carewest George Boyack on May 7, 2000 at the age of 87 years. Bill was born on January 28, 1913 in Stevenston Scotland and immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1926. He attended Western Canada Hgh School and Normal School in Calgary. He then taught at Beaver flats and Victoria School in Calgary. He was marred on July 13,1940 to Gwenyth Morgan. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II as a navigation instructor at Niobe, Scotland. After the war he completed his BA and MEd at the Universitry of Alberta. He was the principal at Currie School, Elboya School and finally A.E.Cross Junor High School. Alter retirement he was active in the Naval Officers Association, Alberta Retired Teachers Association and Masonic Lodge. Besdes his loving wife Gwen, Bill is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margot and Theo Thirsk of Kelsey Alberta, three grandchildren and one great grandchild, Russell (Beckett), Lorraine and Kimberley; great granddaughter, Sydney. Predeceased by his parents, Henry and Jessie, brothers Bob, Jack, Tom, Harry and sister Elizabeth.

On Sunday morning, 15 Sept 1946, RCAF Douglas Dakota III (#962) transport aircraft crashed at Estevan Airport, in Saskatchewan, with the loss of 21 RCAF personnel; all airmen had served honourably during the Second World War, many of them having been decorated for their war-time acts of valour. The Dakota was engaged in ferrying airmen from Fargo, North Dakota to Estevan, Saskatchewan. The airmen had ferried Fairchild PT-19 Cornell planes to Fargo and were returning for another series of ferry flights. 31yo F/L R. C. McROBERTS DFC was one of the casualties of this tragic accident.

PRITCHARD—Betty Pritchard, a longtime resident of Calgary, passed away on May 11,1997 at the age of 75. Prior to her retirement, Betty worked for the Calgary Board of Education at their Highfield Media Services Centre. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her family and many friends. Her memory will be continued through the lives of her life partner Alex Wright; daughters, Penny (Gordon), Bonnie, Barb (Bill); five grandchildren, Rob and Scott MacLean, Shannon Hawpe, Gordon and Spencer Davies; and her brother William (Bill) McRoberts. Betty was predeceased by her husband Lorne in 1966.
