Ann died 23rd April 1822 buried Friends Burial Ground Whelpo, Cumbria. Her mother Mary had her brother John lived in Cumbria where he was an apothecary and surgeon. Ann married George Bewley on 18th Sep 1773.  He was the son of Thomas and Rachel Bewley nee Greenup. George born 26th Nov 1749 and died 15th August 1828 was buried at the Friends Burial Ground Whelpo. He was a cousin of John Dalton the famous Quaker in Manchester who predicted Hannah Bewleys second marriage to Robert Abbot.

The marriage of Ann and George yielded many children and again a huge list of descendents, Thomas x3 George x2 Rachel William and Alice x2. The first Thomas was born 1774. The first George born 20th Mar 1776 and died Jun 1776.  The 2nd Thomas was born 1778 and died 6th March 1866 in Keswick Cumbria.  He had lived in Canada and US and married Rachel Harrison in 1803 with four female children of whom Hannah born 14th May 1804 married Robert Kimberley Tipping on 29th Oct 1834 at this point Hannah's parents were in Canada or US, depending on the source, where Thomas was a book keeper.

Robert Kimberley Tipping was the son of William Tipping, a cabinet maker of Liverpool and Mary Kimberley his wife. Robert said to be born 19th Dec 1807 Liverpool died aged 27 in 1834 and had been a grocer and tea dealer there. Robert and Hannah married 29th October 1834 with the marriage recorded at FMH Beckfoot Cumberland with Hannah being of Wigton Robert died very shortly after 28th Nov 1834 hence no issue. Hannah his widow later remarried another Robert namely Abbot again a tea dealer. No issue of this marriage either.

Sources say that William died close to the birth of son Robert so therefore c 1807 and Mary also around this date.

Rachel another sister of Hannah married Jonathan Richardson

William was the eldest surviving son of John Tipping and Mary Ecroyd.  He was brought up in a Quaker environment and probably surrounded at every turn by Quakers. William was described as a large farmer (in acreage) and was of Docber in Sawley. It would seem that he was well to do in life and he may well have farmed the same farm as his father and possibly grandfather.  No doubt they were tenants and the lease probably passed on the fathers death to William under the system of a lease being for three lives.  Dockber is described as the stronghold of Tippings.

Piece Description Piece 1448: Monthly Meeting of Hardshaw East (Manchester, Warrington, etc) (1698-1775)

William married Ann livesay (spellings exits of various ways but the name is an old Burnley area name).

Martin Top was the name of a farm in nearby Rimmington apparently a hot bed of nonconformity. Meetings took place in the farm but then it was decided a more suitable place was needed for worship.  A building namely a Chapel and a Congregational Chapel was opened in 1817. On the deeds is a whole long list of names including William Tipping of Dockber. Why he was on there not sure but the answer could be he was amongst the 20 trustees who were prepared to each lend Pounds 20 for three years without interest.

William died 30th June also buried at Green End on 4th July 1831.

Ann is in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census as Ann Crook the wife, or widow of Joshua, being born about 1788 in Sawley, Yorkshire. Also her grave stone gives her birth as 29 June 1787.

This aligns with the baptism reference belowto William and Ann Tipping having a daughter Ann on 29 Jun 1787 in Sawley.

Meeting Quarterly Meeting of Lancashire
Piece Description Piece 0806: Quarterly Meeting of Lancashire: Births (1786-1794)

Marriage: Yorkshire: Waddington - Parish Registers, 1599-1812
Joshua Crook, of the Parish of Bolton le Moors Co. Lancaster, and Ann Tipping of the Monastry of Sawley marrried by Licence, 20 Jul 1808 by Robert Smith the officiating Minister- They signed as Jos Crook, Ann Tipping. Witnesses were: James Kayley, Maria Page, and John Turner

Joshua was a Unitarian and Ann was a Quaker, but even so the gulf between their faith and the Quakers was unbridgeable in those days and they had to elope.  In consequence Anne Tipping was "talked out" of her meeting and, possibly remained estranged from her family.  At any rate the marriage that started so romantically was happy and successful.  Anne Tipping was a beautiful woman with great strength of character and must have been a great help to her husband, for Quaker women were used to being on a more or less equal footing with their men.

John died 31st March 1805 Liverpool and was a soap boiler and merchant. John married Ann Abbatt 1757 -1828 (various spellings) daughter of Robert and Agnes nee Rigg in 1780.  Children - some identified as Isaac, Hannah, Thomas, and William a cabinet maker who married Mary Kimberley and had son Robert born same year as death of his father c1807?  Robert married Hannah Bewley. Another son Thomas 13th May 1789 was a corn merchant of Bank Quay Warrington and he was not very business minded and eventually in 1820 had debts of some Pounds 14000 and was a bankrupt. Most of the money was owed to Joseph Crosfield a fellow Quaker and soap boiler who had leased premises at Bank Quay to Thomas for 14 years at a rent of Pounds 100 clear of taxes rates etc he never paid money under the terms of the lease.  An enquiry was held by Hardshaw East into what had gone on as it was a big disgrace for a Quaker to be a bankrupt they concluded he was scandalously fraudulent as he had not got the means to afford the lease and he also had a speculative behaviour.  Thomas married Sarah Gilpin born 1790 Manchester died 1833/4.

Mary married William Summerland of Uttoxeter Staffordshire. Nominally they were Quaker but some death certificates for this family state "not in unity or not members".

William had children with Mary, Hannah 1788, Joseph 1789, Ann Marie, William 1791, Mary 1792 and Richard Ecroyd 1793 - 1832. Sons William and Robert were also butchers. They were connected to Shipley of Uttoxeter also butchers as previously described. There was a very long running family feud here  because of a second marriage when two brothers decided they had been done out of their inheritance when Rachel Summerland nee Shipley married for a second time a man named Botham who had no idea about money management and paying bills.

Son Joseph may have had criminal tendencies and was possibly of Liverpool and a bankrupt.

Mary died aged 78 in January 1834.

William's own father was Joseph 1738 - 1808 also a butcher and grazier and his wife was Hannah.  William had a brother John born 1767 who had been in the West Indies but returned to Uttoxeter and who then had a severe spell of mental illness whose treatment, by Dr Tuke at the Quaker Retreat for the mentally ill in York, is recorded. He was well treated and cared for by his family who in 1802 had paid a guinea per week for John's treatment.

William was in business with his father but they parted company in 1798 with a written proviso that they were not to interfere in or with each others businesses. It is not known what caused the breakdown between them but it didn't seem to stop William inheriting his father's estate. William had children with Mary, Hannah 1788, Joseph 1789, Ann Marie, William 1791, Mary 1792 and Richard Ecroyd 1793 - 1832. Sons William and Robert were also butchers. Ebenezer 8th Aug 1760 Docber Sawley a soap boiler of Whitehaven Cumbria married Jane Pearson born 1763 of Greysouthern Cumbria. Ebenezer died 1791.  The marriage was in 1785 and recorded at Pardshaw Cumbria.  A child Hannah 18th Oct 1788 buried FBG Stramongate Kendal. Hannah was a Quaker elder who married Samuel Marshall who possibly had 10 children and again a very long list of descendents.  Ebenezer a son John Pearson 1787 and another daughter Mary 1790 who married William Wilson of Kendal.

Births of Ebenezer's children are recorded at Marsden despite him being of Cumbria and this doesn't seem to be uncommon if there was an attachment /connection with another place.
