William was listed as an Estate Manager in his son William(b1831)'s marriage registration in 1885.
It is presumed that William died before 1836 when his then wife, Janet Lindsay, married John McArthur.
It is assumed that this William would have been about 26 (ie born about 1805) when his son William was born in 1831 to 21 year old Janet Lindsay. Janet Lindsay and William Watson were not married when William Watson was born in October 1831 (ie he was a natural son). Note that Janet appears to have married William Watson, probably in about 1832 as she is referred to as Janet Watson when she married John McArthur in 1836.
There a number of references to a William Watson born between 1800 and 1813 in the Lesmahagow area but there is currently no evidence to confirm the correct person.
